Extensions

The Atlas Project →

If your home no longer fits your lifestyle, a well-designed extension can transform how you live, without the upheaval of moving. As one of Coventry's most trusted building contractors, The Dankett Construction Company has extensive experience building house extensions across Coventry, Solihull, Kenilworth, Warwick, Rugby and the surrounding Warwickshire area.

We handle every stage of the extension process in-house, from initial groundworks and foundations right through to plastering, tiling, electrics and final decoration. You deal with one team from start to finish, no confusing handoffs, no finger-pointing between trades.

What types of extension do we build?

Rear extensions are among the most popular ways to add space in Coventry and the surrounding area. Whether you want to open up a kitchen-diner, create a dedicated living area, or simply let more light into the back of your home, a rear extension can make a dramatic difference. We build single-storey and double-storey rear extensions, fully managing structural calculations, party wall agreements, and building regulations compliance on your behalf.

Side return extensions make clever use of the narrow alleyway that runs alongside many terraced and semi-detached homes in Coventry and Solihull. By filling this dead space, you can meaningfully increase your ground floor footprint often without the need for full planning permission under permitted development rules.

Wraparound extensions combine a rear and side return into one larger project, delivering a significant uplift in space and completely reimagining the rear of your property. They're ideal for homeowners who want to create a truly open-plan ground floor.

Double-storey extensions add space on both floors simultaneously, making them exceptionally cost-effective per square metre. Adding a bedroom above and a living room below, for example, can completely future-proof your home for a growing family.

Orangeries and garden rooms blur the boundary between indoors and out. We build fully insulated, year-round garden rooms and orangeries that can serve as home offices, playrooms, dining rooms or simply a beautiful space to relax.

What's included?

Every extension project we take on includes full project management, liaison with your architect (or we can recommend one), structural engineering coordination, building regulations applications, groundworks, brickwork, roofing, internal fit-out, and snagging. We leave your home clean, tidy, and ready to furnish.

New Build Homes

The Atlas Project →

Building a new home from scratch is the ultimate project and it demands a contractor you can genuinely trust. The Dankett Construction Company works with private clients, self-builders, and small developers across Coventry and Warwickshire to deliver residential new builds that are constructed to the highest standard, on time, and within agreed budgets.

We understand that a new build is often the biggest financial commitment of a person's life. That's why we take a methodical, transparent approach from day one, keeping you informed at every stage, flagging issues before they become problems, and never cutting corners to save time.

Our new build process:

Pre-construction: We work alongside your architect and structural engineer from the outset, providing contractor input that often saves money and time later. We assist with pre-application planning enquiries, building regulations submissions, and programme planning so you know exactly what to expect and when.

Groundworks & foundations: Every solid build starts below ground. Our experienced groundworks team handles site clearance, excavation, drainage, and foundation installation, whether strip, raft, or piled to the exact specification required.

Superstructure & weathertight shell: From the blockwork and brickwork up through the roof structure, we construct a weathertight shell built to last. We work with traditional masonry construction as well as timber frame builds depending on your design and budget requirements.

First and second fix: Once the shell is secure, our team carries out all first fix carpentry, mechanical and electrical work, before moving on to plastering, boarding, and second fix joinery and services.

Fit-out & finishing: Kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, decoration, external landscaping, we manage the full fit-out, either using our own trades or coordinating your chosen suppliers. The result is a home that's complete, compliant, and ready to move into.

Self-build support: Already have your plot and planning permission? We work with self-builders at any stage, whether you need a full main contractor or help with specific elements of the build.

Loft Conversions

The Atlas Project →

A loft conversion is consistently one of the highest-return home improvements you can make. By transforming unused roof space into a functional, habitable room, you can add significant value to your property while gaining the extra space your household needs, all without losing a square metre of garden. The Dankett Construction Company specialises in loft conversions across Coventry, Solihull, and the wider Warwickshire area, and we've completed projects ranging from simple Velux conversions to complex full-width dormer builds.

One of the first questions we get asked is whether planning permission is needed. In most cases, loft conversions fall under permitted development rights, meaning no formal planning application is required. We'll assess your property from the outset and advise you clearly on what applies in your specific situation, including any restrictions in conservation areas or on listed buildings.

Types of loft conversion we specialise in:

Velux / roof light conversions are the most straightforward and cost-effective option, involving minimal changes to the roofline. We install high-quality roof windows, reinforce the floor structure, add insulation, and create a new staircase, transforming a cold, boarded loft into a bright, usable room.

Dormer loft conversions are the most popular style in Coventry and surrounding areas. By extending the roof vertically, a dormer adds significant headroom and floor space, making it possible to create a genuinely comfortable bedroom, office, or bathroom. Flat-roof dormers are the most common, while pitched and hipped dormers suit certain architectural styles better.

Hip-to-gable conversions are particularly suited to detached and semi-detached homes with a hipped roof. By replacing the sloping hip with a vertical gable end, we create considerably more internal space, often in combination with a rear dormer to maximise the conversion.

Mansard conversions involve the most significant alteration to the roof structure, raising the pitch on one or both sides to create an almost vertical rear wall. This style is common in urban areas and delivers the largest possible increase in internal space, though it typically requires full planning permission.

What's included in every loft conversion:

Structural calculations and building regulations approval · floor strengthening · new staircase design and installation · roof alterations and weatherproofing · insulation to current standards · Velux or dormer window installation · first and second fix electrics · plasterboarding and plastering · optional en-suite bathroom fitting

Renovation and Refurbishment

The Atlas Project →

Whether you've just bought a tired property in need of complete modernisation, or you're ready to finally tackle that long list of improvements on your existing home, The Dankett Construction Company delivers renovation and refurbishment work that's thorough, well-managed, and finished to a standard you'll notice every day.

As experienced renovation contractors in Coventry and across Warwickshire, we work on all types of residential property — Victorian and Edwardian terraces, 1930s semis, post-war properties, and modern builds. We understand the quirks and challenges of older housing stock, and we know how to bring a tired building back to life without compromising its character.

What our renovation service covers:

Whole-house refurbishments — If you've purchased a property that needs significant work, we can project-manage a complete refurbishment from top to bottom. This typically includes structural alterations, rewiring, re-plumbing, new heating systems, insulation upgrades, plastering, new flooring, kitchen and bathroom installation, and decoration throughout. We work methodically through the property in the most logical sequence, minimising downtime and keeping disruption manageable.

Structural alterations — Opening up rooms, removing load-bearing walls, creating open-plan layouts, installing steel beams — this is work that needs to be done correctly and with the right sign-off. We work with structural engineers to ensure every alteration is properly designed, approved under building regulations, and executed safely.

Internal remodelling — Changing the layout of your home without major structural intervention. Relocating doorways, repositioning stud walls, reconfiguring hallways and living spaces to better suit modern life. Small changes can make a huge difference to how a home feels and flows.

Period property renovation — We have particular experience working on Victorian and Edwardian properties across Coventry and Warwickshire. Older buildings require a sympathetic approach — preserving original features where possible while upgrading insulation, services and fittings to meet modern standards. We'll never rip out something worth keeping just because it's easier.

Damp, structural and remedial works — Rising damp, penetrating damp, cracked lintels, failed pointing — we diagnose and fix the issues that undermine a property's condition before they become serious. If you're buying a property with a surveyor's report full of concerns, we can work through the list systematically.
